What's the Adoption

Process?
You must email
SPINDLETOPABR@aol.com  for an interview and application. We will be able to match your preferences with the available dogs this way and send you an application by email or ground mail. You fill out the application and contract and if we approve, we arrange a home check and reference check before releasing the dog to you. We do ship nationwide but you must follow our shipping protocol using Continental Airlines. We stay in contact for the life of our adopted dogs and will do follow ups to be sure your new relationship is a joyful one.
Why are the dogs spayed & neutered? How did the dogs get to Spindletop?
Spindletop rescues dogs from abuse, neglect, being killed at shelters and found as strays. There are not enough responsible homes for American Pit Bull Terriers and it is irresponsible and unethical to add to the surplus of unwanted dogs. Looking at our Orphans, you will see beautiful, friendly dogs that represent the average pit bull terrier and unless dogs are being produced for standard show quality and working performance out of health screened, proven parents, there is really no difference between those pit bull terriers produced casually and Spindletop Orphans. Spay and neuter your dogs, do not add to the problem!
Why Adopt A Rescued Dog?
Spindletop dogs are evaluated for a companion temperament and we know each dog's personality and what you can expect from the dog. Our orphans are ready to come to your home with basic obedience and crate training and have all their veterinary care. We are here to answer any questions regarding the dog and will help you solve problems as they come up. Of course we love to hear from our adopted dog families for updates and happy stories as well! We insist that the adopted dog be brought back to Spindletop if a situation arises that endangers the dogs welfare.
"I have to get rid of a Pit Bull. Will you take him?"
Spindletop Refuge does not take owner dogs. We suggest an ad in the paper, online or a pet store bulletin board and careful screening of applicants.
